Club History (@ Sep 2009)

In 1983 the Conestoga Wheelers Field Hockey Club realized that junior development was the only way to grow Men's Field Hockey in the Kitchener-Waterloo Area.  Their junior program launched this club.

The Kitchener-Waterloo Dragon Boys Field Hockey Club was born.  It operated as a boys only Under 12 program for the first few years with an enrollment of 20-30 players playing in a fall program.  A few years later, Field Hockey Ontario pushed to have all Junior clubs operate in the Spring time.  This allowed interclub games and the club started to grow.

About the same time, the name was changed to Kitchener-Waterloo Dragons FHC and girls were added to the mix.  Immediately the numbers grew to the 35-40 range and entry into the Maple Leaf Tournament in Toronto became a regular fixture.

Attendance stayed at the 40-50 level until 1994.  That year a 5 year goal was set to achieve the 100 player level by 1999.  In 2000 we hit 84 and in 2001, 125.  We have expanded to a Under 18 Twin-City league, Under 13 Twin-City league and Under 9 entry program.

We enter competitive teams into the Toronto leagues with a U18 Boys team, U18 Girls team and U14 Mixed teams.  All games are played on turf to help Ball control skills develop.
Our Competitive teams also play Indoor Hockey in the Winter.  [A great game to develop tight passing and advanced Ball control skills. >Played 6-a-side, on a gym court slightly bigger than basketball].
Our U18M "BIG" Dragons were Indoor Champions for the 2005-6 and 2006-7 and 2007-8 Indoor seasons.
They also won the FHO Cup Aug 2007 and Aug 2008.

We are now regularly placing players on the Ontario teams.

We are expecting from 150+ players in the 2009 season.
